Hub Labels Inc, a Maryland-based label printing converter, has expanded its printing capabilities with the acquisition of an HP Indigo 6K digital press. The press gives the company a competitive edge for short-term label runs in a variety of industries, including the food, beverage, and health and beauty market segments, for n to name a few.

“Over the past two years, the demand for labels has continued to skyrocket,” says Thomas Dahbura, president and owner of Hub Labels. “Even with all the challenges our industry faces, the economy continues to be strong. Consumers buy. Over the past year, we have seen the strongest growth from our small and mid-sized customers. By adding the HP Indigo press to our range, we are adding more than 10% capacity to our plant. This is huge for us and our customers. . This helps us to balance our workload on our presses, to offer shorter delivery times and to be more flexible in the way we fill orders. In addition, the print quality is breathtaking and is a perfect fit for Hub. “

Quality and reputation were major factors that contributed to Hub Labels’ decision to install the equipment in its Hagerstown plant. HP technology produces incredible detail that people expect from Hub. In addition, the press offers mass label customization, brand protection, variable data and a wide gamut for endless color possibilities. The press also allows product managers to be more agile and to pivot easily, without producing a lot of waste.

Ryan Johnston, vice president of finance at Hub Labels, met with HP to ensure the HP Indigo press would complement and enhance Hub’s current capabilities. “We invested in a Heidelberg / Gallus hybrid digital flexo press several years ago, so the HP press is our second digital press. It allows us to be more efficient by using the right press for the job. By partnering with HP, we also gain a competitive advantage. HP is well known, even to our customers. The Indigo fleet is a proven technology. With this press, we are able to reduce our preparation time and produce labels very quickly that meet our incredibly high quality standards. “

The HP Indigo 6k digital press is one of many investments made by Hub Labels in 2021. Earlier this year, the company announced the installation of a GM hot stamping and embossing machine. In addition, Hub Labels recently installed a GM cutting machine to increase operational efficiency and directly support Hub’s two digital presses.

Dahbura explains the continued investment in new technologies despite the turmoil facing the industry. “The bottom line is that the technology continues to evolve. The world is not stopping on the move because of Covid, equipment shortages, or any other obstacle we may face. By investing in our business, we help our customers sell more products and grow their business. Also, I am a bit of a geek when I can show a client the possibilities of what we are capable of achieving. Making labels is more than just putting ink on a material. I love to show designers and business owners our capabilities such as HP Indigo’s mosaic technology which produces hundreds of unique labels from a single art file, and without a huge price tag. This is a game-changer for small and medium-sized businesses who can now increase consumer engagement and easily deliver innovative packaging. Technology sells itself.
