For much of 2020 and 2021, label and packaging converters have seen tremendous demand for their products and for shorter turnaround times from customers needing to stock grocery store shelves. Due to this demand, Heidelberg has seen an increase in the number of its customers looking to modernize and add new Gallus narrow web presses to their production shops. Customers in the United States, Canada and Mexico have installed various Gallus balers in locations across North America over the past 18 months – with many customers installing Gallus RCS, ECS and Labelmaster machines.

“After the initial boom in COVID-related business, our label customers quickly realized they needed to increase capacity and increase efficiency to get products off the ground faster,” said Felix Mueller, president of Heidelberg North America . “We have seen existing customers and customers who have never purchased from us turn to Gallus machines for their known reliability, state-of-the-art recording and ability to perform various processes online. “

Customers not only invested in new machines, but also in Screeny products, Gallus’ line of screen printing plates for the narrow web market. Screeny can be integrated into Gallus machines to obtain screen printing effects which are not possible in pure flexographic printing. It has become a particular market trend as the augmented effects help the products stand out on the shelves.

“Unlike many vendors, we can provide a complete solution for every production environment: machine, consumables, service and application support from label experts. In the most difficult times, Heidelberg is a partner who is there for you from start to finish, ”said Mueller.

To support its label customers, Heidelberg hired Scot Neumann as Sales Manager for the Midwest to represent the Gallus product line. Having worked for over 20 years in sales for various label and packaging companies, Neumann brings a unique perspective to his new role, having directly addressed the printing needs of many large consumer goods companies. Neumann, with extensive experience in flexographic and digital labels, shrink sleeves and flexible packaging, reports to André Blais, National Account Manager for Gallus Products.

“We are delighted to add Scot to our team. His dynamic background provides him with an excellent understanding of our customers’ needs, which will help him work collaboratively to provide the best solutions for their particular production needs, ”said Blais.

To strengthen its support to its label customers, Heidelberg has a Gallus Labelfire 340, its digital / flexo hybrid press, installed at the Print Media Center in Atlanta. The machine is available for digital and in-person remote demonstrations. To learn more about hosting a demo, please contact [email protected] for more information.

“As we continue to demonstrate our commitment to the labeling community, we are still working to improve our efficiency and aim to grow in this space. We are excited about the developments we have seen so far and hope to play a key role in the future of the label market, ”said Mueller.
