PLANO, Texas – Doorbell camera video shows the moment an explosion Monday shattered a house in Plano, sending six people – including several children – to hospital.

The cause of the explosion is still undetermined.

A neighbor who lives directly across from the house on Cleveland Drive shared a doorbell camera video with WFAA that showed the moment the explosion occurred. You can hear the loud bang of the explosion, then see smoke billowing and debris raining down.

His own home was damaged in the explosion and he said investigators would not let him in.

“It’s a disaster!” he said.

Plano Fire Captain Peggy Harrell told the WFAA near the scene that some windows had been destroyed in houses across from the blast, and said some residents said they felt the blast at a kilometer away, among which the staff of the Haggard Library.

A neighbor who lives two blocks from the explosion said he heard a “really aggressive thunderbolt” followed by two loud booms.

“After this explosion, my walls were vibrating, everything in the house was vibrating,” he described. “It was as if my whole house had fallen over.”

Six people – including three children – were taken to hospital, although the extent of their injuries is unclear.

In a statement, the mayor of Plano, John Muns, called the explosion a “tragedy”.

Atmos Energy, Oncor and fire department investigators are all looking into the cause.
