CINCINNATI, OH, 45236, September 17, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ – Michem® Coat 525, one of the compostable coatings recently certified by Michelman’s Institute of Biodegradable Products (BPI), won the Silver Award for Innovative Packaging Materials at the 2021 PACKCON Star Awards in China. Michelman China submitted the containers applied with this coating for evaluation at PACKCON 2021, one of the leading trade events for the packaging industry in China showcasing packaging trends and developments in China.
Michelman stood out from over 20 companies after a comprehensive review by event attendees and industry judges. Guangzhou Procter & Gamble Technology Innovation Co., Ltd., Hewlett-Packard (China) Co., Ltd., Shunqihe (Shenzhen) Technology Co., Ltd., Wuhan University Printing and Packaging Department, RRD Asia, Dongguan City Jingli Can Co., Ltd., Fudan Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts, Shenzhen Green Song Design Consulting Co., Ltd., Wuhan Pufan Design and other end user representatives participated in the judgment.
The coating was highly rated in the review, obtaining high marks for being PFAS-free, plumping and compostable. Michem® Coat 525 also provides maximum oil and grease performance in molding compounds and other fiber-based restoration applications.
The Flexible Packaging and Folding Cartons Association of India (IFCA) recently awarded Michelman India an IFCA Star Award for HydraBan® 8000, a water resistant, PFAS-free paper coating with excellent bondability and printability. Like Michem® Coat 525, it has been proven to biodegrade in an industrial compost environment and has successfully passed biodegradation and ecotoxicity tests to receive certification. Both coatings can be used in amounts typical for the applications for which they are designed with minimal limitations. In addition, HydraBan® 8000 is FDA approved for direct food contact and, like Michem® Coat 525, is ideal for fiber-based catering packaging applications.
Michelman’s BPI certified product portfolio includes Michem® Coat 2000, a functional coating that provides maximum performance for oils and greases with additional coatings currently being tested.
