The vivo X90 Pro+ is here and the company is so confident in its creation that it calls its camera the “King of One Inch Sensors”. The phone is not the first to release Sony’s IMX989 imager, but vivo has equipped it with several enhancements that make it special.

Let’s start with the first thing light encounters: the lens. It features a high quality glass element with a Abbot number of 81.6 (a higher number means less light scatter, plastic can have a number as low as 30). Plus, it’s coated with Zeiss T* formulation that reduces flare and ghosting. The lens has a fairly wide aperture, f/1.75 (a certain Xiaomi has an f/1.9 lens), which lets in more light.

And the large 1″ IMX989 sensor is here to help – this camera has a 77% larger photosensitive area than the X80 Pro’s 1/1.3″ sensor. The individual 1.6 µm sensors can be grouped into groups of four to achieve an effective pixel size of 3.2 µm. Next comes image processing, but we’ll come back to that.

The X90 Pro+ is equipped with two telephoto lenses. The more interesting of the two is a 90mm periscope lens with a 64MP sensor. This one has a 3.5x optical zoom and a maximum 100x digital zoom. Additionally, there’s a bright 50mm portrait lens (f/1.6, fixed focus) with a 50MP sensor behind (IMX758). All three cameras mentioned so far have OIS.

The ultra wide angle lens has been optimized for low distortion. It has a 114° field of view and a 48MP (IMX598) sensor. The autofocus rear cameras are assisted by a time-of-flight laser system. Finally, the selfie camera has a 32MP sensor (f / 2.45).

The X90 Pro+ can record 8K video at 30fps. And if you want quality, there’s a 14-bit RAW video mode. You can calibrate the camera with the typical gray card and choose between Zeiss Natural Color 2.0 or vivo Vivid Color mode. Both Dolby Vision and LOG formats are supported, and you can capture stills at 10 fps while recording video.

All this shouldn’t give you the impression that the camera is the only special feature of the vivo X90 Pro+. It’s powered by the latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, loaded with 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of the new UFS 4.0 storage. The chipset is connected with a large 8900mm² vapor chamber to maintain stable performance.

The company has added its new ISP vivo V2 to handle image processing. The chip is more efficient, delivering 16 TOPS per watt and comes equipped with 45MB of on-chip SRAM. It combines traditional ISP and AI approaches and handles noise reduction, HDR, MEMC, and more.

The vivo X90 Pro+ has a large 6.78-inch screen with a resolution of 1440 x 3200 pixels (20:9). It is an LTPO 4 AMOLED panel (Samsung E6) with 10-bit color and a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. For dimming, the display uses a high-frequency PWM system of 1440 Hz. peaks at 1,800 nits. The dual-curvature screen is factory calibrated and supports Dolby Vision.

The vivo X90 Pro+ has a 1 '' sensor, two telephoto lenses, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and a vivo V2 ISP

The body of the phone is available in two colors – China Red and Original Black, both with leatherette texture. It’s rated IP68 for dust and water resistance, so it’s not afraid of the elements. It’s a bit chunky, measuring 9.7mm thick and weighing 221g (that’s still lighter than the Xiaomi and iPhone 14 Pro Max).

Inside is a 4,700 mAh (18.23 Wh) battery which is split into two cells for fast charging. vivo didn’t go wild with this one, the Pro+ supports 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. Going the wired route, a full charge can be achieved in 33 minutes.

A few other things to mention. The phone has stereo speakers, but it also offers a wireless option – when paired with the new vivo TWS 3 Pro, it promises lossless, low-latency sound. Bluetooth version 5.3 is supported with aptX HD and LDAC. For wired connectivity, USB-C support is designed for USB 3.2 Gen1 speeds and supports video output.

The vivo X90 Pro+ has a 1 '' sensor, two telephoto lenses, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and a vivo V2 ISP

The vivo X90 Pro+ launches in China with OriginOS 3. While its siblings went up for pre-order immediately, Pro+ pre-sales will begin on November 28, and all three models will be available from December 6. In China at least, vivo did not reveal any global launch plans.

So if you’re in China in the coming weeks you’ll be able to pick up a Pro+ for CNY6,500 ($910/€890/₹74,500) for the 12/256GB model, the 12/512GB is slightly more expensive at CNY7,000.

MOSCOW, Idaho – A live stream from an overnight food truck appears to have recorded two students ordering food hours before authorities found them and two others fatally stabbed in an off-campus housevideo obtained Wednesday by NBC News shows.

The video appears to show University of Idaho students ordering “mac of the week” and carbonara from the food truck amid a rush of customers early Sunday morning. The livestream was broadcast on the Twitch platform by Grub Wandering Kitchen, owner of the food truck.

Joseph Woodall, who manages the truck, said they appeared to have been there between 1:30 a.m. and 1:40 a.m.

This still from the video appears to show two Idaho victims in a food truck prior to the incident.GrubTruckers

Woodall described the downtown food truck as one of Moscow’s only nighttime options for hospital workers and students heading to parties or bars.

It is unclear where the couple went after leaving the area, approximately 10 minutes after arriving. But Moscow Police Chief James Fry told reporters on Wednesday that the four victims – Ethan Chapin, 20; Madison Mogen, 21; Xana Kernodle, 20; and Kaylee Goncalves, 21 – were likely killed in the “early hours” of Sunday.

Fry did not identify the two victims who were seen in the video, but said the live stream helped provide investigators “time and space where two of our victims were.”

NBC News did not identify the victims apparently seen in the video.

More coverage of the murder of four University of Idaho students

Two of the victims — Chapin and his girlfriend, Kernodle — had attended a party earlier that night, Fry said. Mogen and Goncalves had gone to a bar downtown. Fry said the four friends arrived at the house where they were found killed after 1:45 a.m.

The house, a few blocks from campus and about a mile from the food truck, was where Kernodle, Mogen and Goncalves lived, according to a neighbor and friend of Chapin’s, Ellie McKnight.

Authorities found their bodies after a 911 caller reported an “unconscious” person just before noon on Sunday, the Moscow Police Department said. No suspect has been identified and the murder weapon has not been found.

Investigators found no evidence of forced entry, Fry said.

Authorities believe two other housemates who also lived in the house were there when the murders took place and were not injured. Fry declined to provide further details about the housemates, citing an ongoing investigation, and he was unsure why no one called 911 until 11:58 a.m.

“Wouldn’t we like that to happen?” he told reporters. “Yes. But that’s not how it happened. That’s why we’re investigating everything to try to put all the pieces together.”

Autopsies are expected to be completed later this week, the Moscow Police Department said.

The video appeared as Fry returned to previous comments that there was no continued threat after families of the victims criticized the way authorities conducted the investigation.

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Olympia Police Department officers now have body cameras, a tool the city has been trying to implement for several years.

Chief Rich Allen said officers started wearing the cameras on Halloween. The city began discussions about implementing body cameras and dash cams in 2015, and city council approved funding last year to make it happen in 2022.

“It looks like we’ve been working on this for a year, and we’ve done it, and from the outside it may seem like a long time to get us up and running,” Allen said. “But I’m proud of the work done by our team. It was a big job to get there.”

In May, Allen and other members of the department made presentations to city council and the public, explaining why the department needs body-worn cameras and giving people a chance to speak out on the issue. A vendor, Axon Network, was selected to supply the equipment under an $800,000 contract.

Allen said the department already has a contract with Axon for its digital evidence management system.

[DOWNLOAD: Police1’s 2022 guide to body-worn cameras]

The city has opened a public comment period for people to weigh in on which department is getting the technology. Allen said there were 114 responses and most concerns were about privacy and access.

He said the department is able to remove bits of information from images as needed, such as in situations where people are in a medical facility, there are minors or there is nudity. More information can be found on the city’s website.

Access to the images will work the same as any other public records request, he said, and a fee could also be charged, depending on the amount of redaction involved.

He said people were also concerned about officers wearing cameras properly, keeping them on and clear.

“We give it to them, they have to wear it, they have to use it appropriately, and they can’t turn it off when they’re not supposed to,” Allen said. “All of this has been addressed in our policy.”

He said officers and the police union fully support body cameras and see the value in wearing them.

Axon recently completed equipping TCOMM, the dispatch center, with the technology. Allen said they use what’s called auto-tagging, where the body camera will recognize an officer’s call for duty, and it will automatically link video and audio files to that information.

The department is also expected to receive dash cams, but they won’t arrive until 2023.

According to the department’s website, the cameras have a 146-degree angle of view from the officer’s chest. They record both audio and video at 720p and 30 frames per second. They can store up to 26 hours of video and their autonomy is 12 hours.

There will be an open house at 6 p.m. on November 21 at City Hall for people to learn about the equipment, see how it works and more.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – If you’ve been driving on the freeway lately, you’ve no doubt noticed that most Tennessee license plates are now blue, a transformation to a new plate design that began in early This year.

Although the blue plates can be aesthetic, law enforcement initially complained that they were very difficult to read at night by LPR (licence plate recognition) cameras. These cameras are widely used by police, sheriff, homeowners associations, and even schools to catch criminals, locate missing persons, and provide security.

On Monday, representatives of Herd safetyone of the industry leaders, told News 2 that the company had made numerous technology updates to read the new plate at night.

The state began issuing the new plates in early 2022. It didn’t take long for law enforcement to find that new blue patches at night were not showing up clearly on LPR cameras like those used by Flock Safety and many other vendors.

News 2 conducted his own experience, driving a van multiple times past a Flock LPR drive at night. The truck had a blue plate on the back. Sheriff officials with access to LPR technology told News 2 they were unable to read the license plate on the back of the van.

According to experts interviewed by News 2, the problem is a reflectivity issue with the new design of the TN license plate and the way it is seen by infrared cameras at night.

“The nighttime readability of the new plates has improved dramatically over the past few months, we can definitely tell you that,” said Holly Beilin of Flock Safety.

According to Beilin, Flock Safety is a leader in the LPR industry with LPR systems in more than 100 police, sheriff and homeowner associations across Tennessee.

“Our machine learning team has continuously updated the software, code, and updated the machine learning and computer vision, and we are confident that the nighttime readability is on par with the original. [Tennessee] plates,” Beilin said.

State Department of Revenue officials have consistently maintained that no changes are planned to plate design and that LPR companies will need to adapt their technology to read the new blue plates.

“We have an exceptional engineering and product team at Flock Safety, and we have law enforcement partners who really need to use our technology to help solve and reduce crime,” said said Beilin.

News 2 has contacted the state Department of Revenue for this story. The ministry made no further comment except to update figures indicating that 4.9 million blue plates have now been produced and more than 5 million are expected to be on the roads by the end of the year. .

Michelle Sanders Parks, director of communications for the state Department of General Services, answered several questions from News 2 regarding LPR cameras on state rights-of-way and the bidding process for vendors .

Sanders Parks wrote:

“Local governments continue to retain the ability and independence to procure LPRs in accordance with state law and may place them on local roads to the extent permitted. Local police departments do not have permission to place cameras on state property unless explicitly authorized by the state.

If permission is granted, the State has determined that the best way to maintain State surveillance of cameras placed on these rights-of-way is to limit this installation to cameras purchased by and through the existing State vendor. The state competed with Motorola Solutions vendor Vigilant in 2021 and continues to share information through that vendor. »

By mapping how the Walsh Glacier had moved over the past eight decades, the expedition was able to identify where explorers left their equipment, including cameras.

Leslie Hittmeier/Teton Gravity ExpeditionIn addition to cameras, the expedition also found cooking utensils and climbing gear.

85 years ago, explorers Bradford Washburn and Robert Bates were forced to abandon a number of their supplies, including cameras, as they attempted to climb Mount Lucania in Canada. Today an expedition has tracked them down and recovered their cameras.

“That moment when we saw the equipment that was unmistakably theirs [was] so surreal and validating in so many ways,” said professional skier Griffin Post, who came up with the idea to reunite with the cameras. PEOPLE. “There have been so many doubts over the past 18 months.”

According The New York TimesPost first learned about cameras while reading Escape from Lucania by David Roberts, a 2002 book that detailed Washburn and Bates’ 1937 expedition. The message focused on a few paragraphs that mentioned that no other expedition had encountered the equipment that Washburn and Bates had been forced to abandon.

“[That] spun the wheels,” Post said.

He teamed up with Teton Gravity Research (TGR), a group of mountaineers and scientists to trek the Walsh Glacier in Canada’s Kluane National Park. But Post soon realized that their task would be easier said than done.

“You’re doing all this research, you’ve got all this scientific reasoning, and you think it’s totally possible: we’re going to go out there and look in this area, and it’s going to be there,” Post said. The New York Times. “And then the first time you actually see the Walsh Glacier valley and how massive it is and how many crevasses there are, how rugged the terrain is, your heart sinks and you’re kind of like, no way, there is so much ground.

Change in glacier topography

Tyler Ravelle/Teton Gravity ResearchThe group studied how the glacier had changed over the past eight decades in order to find the cameras.

In order to find the cameras, Post and his team enlisted Dorota Medrzycka, a glaciologist whose understanding of how glaciers change over time provided estimates of where Washburn and Bates had left their equipment.

Even with Medrzycka, however, Post’s team failed to find Washburn and Bates’ gear on their first attempt in the spring of 2022. In August, their second expedition also seemed on the verge of failure as their a week’s trip to the glacier yielded nothing. But then Medrzycka had an idea.

As The New York Times reports, the glaciologist noted anomalies in the ice that suggested two “surges” had caused Walsh Glacier to move faster than she had previously predicted. Medrzycka revised his estimates — and led Post and his team straight to the cameras.

“Knowing that the educated guess I made paid off and was right, it’s a very incredible feeling,” Medrzycka said. The New York Times.

His revised estimate was all the more astonishing as the expedition only had an hour left before a helicopter was scheduled to pick them up. Message says PEOPLE that they found the cameras “at the 11th hour”.

Camera recovered

Leslie Hittmeier/Teton Gravity ResearchThe expedition hopes to recover film from one of the recovered cameras, seen here buried in snow.

Post’s shipment came across a number of Washburn cameras, including a Fairchild F-8 overhead shutter camera, two motion picture cameras with film, a DeVry model “Lunchbox” camera, and a Bell & Howell Eyemo 71. They also found climbing gear, tents, and kitchen items, including part of a sirloin steak.

But certainly the most enticing finds are the cameras, many of which contain film that Post hopes to develop.

“It was so unlikely to find the cache after 85 years,” he said. The New York Times. “Yes, it’s unlikely that any part of this film is salvageable, but maybe it is.”

Even if the film is unusable, however, Post feels his expedition succeeded in other ways. For example, he shed important light on how the Walsh Glacier had changed over time.

Explorers Bradford Washburn and Robert Bates traveled to the remote wilderness of the Yukon in 1937 to climb Mount Lucania, but the month of bad weather before their trip had left Walsh Glacier, the starting point of their expedition, covered in “unfathomable” slush and “cut to ribbons by dozens of new crevasses,” Washburn wrote in The Alpine Journal.

Poor conditions made it impossible to catch a flight from the glacier after their ascent, so the men traveled more than 100 miles to safety, disposing of supplies that would have been too heavy to carry.

Tucked away in the cache they left behind were cameras that Washburn, a renowned photographer, planned to retrieve a year later, but never did.

Instead, a seven-person expedition team recovered the cameras in August, 85 years later and more than 20 km from where they had been left. The team of explorers announced their discovery on Thursday.

Explorers found part of one of Washburn’s aerial shutter cameras, a Fairchild F-8. They also recovered two movie cameras with film loaded, a DeVry “Lunchbox” camera model and a Bell & Howell Eyemo 71, along with some mountaineering gear.

Conservators at Parks Canada, which oversees national parks in Canada, are processing cameras to see if any footage can be recovered.

The idea to recover the cameras came from Griffin Post, a professional skier who had heard about the cache while reading a 2002 book about the harrowing journey of explorers, “Escape from Lucania” by David Roberts.

He read Washburn’s journals, enlisted the help of scientists and led two glacier expeditions to Kluane National Park and Reserve in northwestern Canada this year in search of the cameras. .

“You’re doing all this research, you’ve got all this scientific reasoning, and you think it’s absolutely possible: we’re going to go out there and look in that particular area, and it’s going to be there,” Post said Saturday. “And then the first time you actually see the Walsh Glacier valley and how massive it is and how many crevasses there are, how rugged the terrain is, your heart sinks and you’re kind of like, no way, there is so much ground.

To find the objects, the team enlisted Dorota Medrzycka, a glaciologist who interpreted maps and historical observations of glacier flow to determine where the cache might be. But she could only provide estimates, and the group spent days excavating the glacier.

“It would take us all day to walk 10 kilometers on the glacier and get back to camp,” Medrzycka said. “And on the way up there were quite a few crevasses, so there were a lot of zigzags trying to find spots to jump over.”

The group could not simply return to where Washburn and Bates had left the cameras, as the flow of the glacier had changed the landscape.

Glaciers move at a constant speed from year to year, but Walsh Glacier does not, Medrzycka said. Unlike most, it’s a rising glacier, meaning that every few decades it moves faster for a period of a year or two.

In a normal year, Walsh Glacier typically flows less than 1 meter per day. During the surge, it moves more than 10 meters, or about 32 feet, per day. Since the 1930s, there have been two surges.

Towards the end of the team’s week-long trip in August, Medrzycka noticed two anomalies in the ice pattern, which she believed were caused by the surges, and was able to calculate a new estimate of the where the objects might be.

The revised estimate ended up sending the team to items the next day.

“Knowing that the educated guess I made paid off and was right, it’s a very amazing feeling,” Medrzycka said.

His findings also provided a new data point on the glacier that will be useful to researchers.

“We can now better understand the change in dynamics on Walsh Glacier and potentially be able to better predict how this specific glacier might change in the future,” Medrzycka said.

It was unclear whether the outbreak was linked to climate change, she said.

“This irregular flow means they don’t behave like other glaciers in the region,” Medrzycka said. “It’s hard to say to what extent what’s happening on the Walsh Glacier is related to something climatic or if it’s just internal behavior.”

The team was backed by Teton Gravity Research, a company that creates media featuring extreme sports and plans to release a film about item recovery.

Post said that while it seemed unlikely, he was cautiously optimistic about the researchers’ ability to recover the footage from the cameras.

“It was so unlikely to find the cache in the first place after 85 years,” he said. “Yes, it’s unlikely that any part of this film is salvageable, but maybe it is.”

ANNISTON, Alabama (WBRC) – The Anniston Police Department installs six more cameras as another security measure in the community. These new cameras are part of a partnership between the city and the McClellan Development Authority.

The department already uses about fifteen cameras throughout the city. Now the McLellan Development Authority is spending $40,000 to purchase four new cameras for Anniston Police to install in this area. The department is also using grant money to install one directly in front of Zinn Park and 18th Street and Rocky Hollow Road.

Chief Nick Bowles says the goal is to use these cameras as additional security and as a way to deter people from committing crimes.

“We want people to see it,” says Bowles. “We want that to deter anyone from doing anything, maybe if they want to do a little mischief and we want other people to see that and feel safe. Know that they are being watched. All of these feeds arrive at the police department. We can see everything. If something happens, we can go back and look into it. If something is happening in real time, duty supervisors can pick it up. »

Chief Bowles says it will take about six months to install the new cameras.
