Buffalo Police Step Up Security, Add Cameras to Jefferson Avenue Tops

BUFFALO, NY – Now that Tops Market on Jefferson Avenue has reopened, the Buffalo Police Department strengthen security measures.
New surveillance cameras have been installed around the store. They monitor the parking lot, as well as the intersections of Landon and Riley streets.
The Buffalo SafeCam program aims to deter criminals and aid law enforcement agencies in their investigations.
Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown hopes the move will bring peace of mind to Tops residents and shoppers.
“As Tops reopens, city-installed surveillance cameras on Jefferson Avenue will continue to keep our focus on improving public safety in this area and throughout our community,” Brown said in a statement Friday.
“Peace of mind for our residents and shoppers is a priority. In addition to the increased security offered by Tops inside the store, we felt it was imperative to provide a higher level of surveillance at outside the store so that our residents are protected in multiple ways.”
Buffalo Common Council President Darius Pridgen also expressed support for the move.
“I hope the new security camera will provide an added sense of security to everyone entering the store,” he said. “We must do everything we can to look out for each other because we remain Jefferson Strong.”
Tops Market on Jefferson Avenue reopened Friday morning for the first time since the deadly May 14 shooting.
The store has been redesigned to help customers feel comfortable. This Tops store officially reopened at 7:45 a.m.
